I am posting so to help others in what to look out for in new engine build up. Learn from my expensive mistakes, very expensive. Just finished balanced blueprinted 20 over with street ported heads, factory cams 1UZFE installed with everything new.
1. Ross pistons, not needed in NA engine, engine will not heat up enough to max use of these pistons, they will rattle until warmed up properly.
2. ACL bearing, not needed, they are race bearing, overkill.
3. ARP heads bolts, will be too long slightly and have to grind down a little to not hit the cams.
4. ARP bolts, do not torque factory, requires 60 ft lb with moly lube and 70 ft lb with 30 weight oil.
5. Cometic brand gaskets, not what is shown on their site and they sent wrong gaskets, very costly, use factory if NA, shot oil everywhere.
Be certain that builder has done a Toyota before and knows the 1UZFE, careful they may not be honest with you.
Check and double check, then check again everything or else can be very expensive.
Also if you are looking for good mech and honest installer, Cherokee County Toyota, top notch mech is David Gay, he knows these engine well now. They will treat you right.
Overall when completed this little engine in a GS400 with 3:76 LSD stands toe to toe with a 500+ HP Porsche Turbo Cayenne, with little more tuning will do better, not dialed in as of yet. Smooth, strong puller.
If need more details or photos will be glad to help.
